How To Choose a Name For Your Yorkie
Narrowing down a range of choices and finally settling on that special one isn’t always easy for dog owners. Here are a few tips on how to make that choice easier before we share our list of names with you:
- Examine Your Yorkie’s Characteristics
An easy way to settle on a moniker would be to tie it to your pooch’s characteristics. For example, you could choose a title based on your pet’s temperament, unique fur markings, or a quirk that they might exhibit.
- Check Which Sounds Your Dog Likes
You might want to try using a number of different titles for a short while to see which one your dog responds to the most.
- Make Sure You Choose a Lasting Name
When choosing a name for your dog, settle on one that will work throughout your furry friend’s life. Avoid giving them monikers that will sound silly after a few years.
- Make It Intereststing
One of the easiest ways to choose a name is to tie it to one of your interests. Whether you’re into sci-fi films or classical literature, you could always name your Yorkshire Terrier after one of your favorite characters.
- Don’t Make It Complicated
You have to make sure that your pooch will easily be able to respond to and recognize their title. Avoid complicated words or ones that sound like a command.
Yorkie Names
Finding the best choice might require some research.
Yorkshire Terriers are known for their curious and active nature, as well as their frequent hyperactivity.
So if your Yorkie puppy possesses any of the above characteristics, you could look for a word relating to their behavior.
Yorkies are considered to be companion dogs, which means that they are bred for friendship as opposed to specific tasks such as hunting.
Picking a word that reflects their lifestyle could also be another way of finding the perfect name for a Yorkshire Terrier.

Male Yorkie Names
The best part about finding a title for a Yorkshire Terrier is that you can also use comical monikers.
Names that highlight your Yorkie’s might (but not his size) are common amongst owners and make for funny dog names.
You can also name your Yorkie after your favorite pop culture reference or fantasy character, this will result in a similarly comical outcome.
Giving your canine a moniker which belongs to a famous hero (or villain) will result in a funny choice that both you and your pooch will love!

Female Yorkie Names
Female Yorkshire Terriers are usually jovial and energetic, as well as very feminine.
Finding the perfect choice for your female pooch is relatively simple because you can either base it on their happy nature or their natural beauty.
Depending on whether your girl is more of a princess type or a happy-go-lucky ray of sunshine, you could pick a name based on their dominant trait.
Female pooches are sweet and affectionate, making them the perfect companion dog.
When choosing a title for your furry friend, try focusing on something that makes you happy and something that you would enjoy calling out to your pup.

My Yorkies are Prissy & Jenni……love them so very much!
My Yorkie’s name is: MACARONI! (for real)
I have 2 Yorkies… One named Pongo (now on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge) and the other Diesel.
I have a rescue Yorkie , the vet thinks she 2.5 . I’ve been thinking “Tink” like in Tinkerbell , but my daughter thinks Sadie .
Hi Debbie, thank you for sharing. I knew a Dogue de Bordeaux called Tinkerbell – it’s quite like having a Great Dane called Tiny! Tink definitely suits a Yorkie better though. Maybe hold off on the naming to see which name suits her personality best. David
