Rottweiler Dog Names

Rottweiler Dog

Rottweilers are an incredibly intelligent breed, and they have been used for lots of different tasks and jobs throughout history:

  • They were originally ‘drover’ dogs in Ancient Rome, used to herd cattle across half the globe (whilst guarding them too)
  • They have also been used as butcher’s dogs, which utilised their skills of herding cattle and even sometimes pulling the cart containing the butcher’s stock

These skills were useless during the industrial revolution, and our beloved dog breed almost went extinct because their work had been replaced by railroads.

Thankfully, Rottweilers are still here today because of their newfound work as rescue dogs, meaning they work side-by-side with the police and military to ensure our constant safety.

These smart, intelligent dogs really are the Jack of all trades!

German Rottweiler Names

German Rottweiler Names

Rottweilers are associated with Germany because that is where their name originates from.

The Ancient Romans brought their herding dogs with them as they conquered Europe, and so were brought into Germany.

A particular area where a bunch of these huge dogs lived was called ‘das Rote Wil’, and so they became known as Rottweilers.

To honor the amazing heritage, it would be a fantastic idea to give your Rottweiler a traditionally German name.
